‘Supernatural’ season 13 won’t be featuring the return of Mark Sheppard as Crowley following the tragic events that transpired in the season 12 finale episode. Meanwhile, Castiel may get a second chance and return from the dead.
Season 12’s finale, titled "All Along the Watchtower," saw the tragic ends of two of the series’ main characters. By the end of the episode, both Castiel (Misha Collins) and Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) were killed in the war between good and evil. Fans were left optimistic considering resurrection always a possibility in the show.
However, it seems that Crowley will not be returning for a 13th season of the popular fantasy-horror television series. According to Comicbook.com, Crowley’s possible resurrection was unlikely after actor Mark Sheppard himself took to social media to say his farewells to his character.
In the image, Sheppard was seen blowing a kiss to the camera as he wore a shirt with Crowley’s face in it and the words “even when I lose, I win.” He captioned it, “So to all my #spnfamily everywhere... my crew and my fellow storytellers... thanks for the ride. Time for something new. Even when I lose...”
Crowley and Castiel were two of the longest-tenured characters on the show apart from main characters Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester. According to Buddy TV, Crowley was introduced in season 5 and appeared in a recurring role since then before being promoted to series regular by season 10. Crowley sacrificed himself for the sake of Sam and Dean by trapping Lucifer in a parallel universe known as Apocalypse World.
Although Crowley won’t be returning to the series, there may still be hope for Castiel. According to Digital Spy, Jared Padalecki may have revealed that Sam and Dean’s friend will be returning for season 13. When asked about working on a Scooby-Doo animated crossover, he replied, "We actually already recorded it… [It's] episode 16 of next season, and we already had to do the script and go to a music studio. And we did all the dialogue, Jensen [Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester] and Misha and I."
Collins also teased, "I think we will see Cas again, but the question is, what [does this death do] to him?... That is, I think the one to wonder about."
‘Supernatural’ season 13 was renewed on The CW on January 2017.
