Starbucks Japan Adds Salty Pineapple Frappuccino for Summer, Evoking Tropical Beach Vibes
As summer sizzles in Japan, Starbucks is introducing new limited-edition Frappuccinos to help customers cope with the heat. The chain is now serving its third major release of the season, a fruity concoction starring pineapple, following the banana and peach drinks.
As SoraNews24 shared, this is Starbucks' first pineapple-flavored Frappuccino since 2021. It features a special sea salt jelly, perfect for midsummer. The drink's main body contains sweet-and-tart pineapple juice for a refreshing fruity hit, while the base includes sea salt jelly for a fun contrast in taste and texture.
The salty pineapple flavors aim to transport taste buds to a tropical beach, and the drink's appearance enhances this effect. The bright yellow pineapple portion evokes images of golden sand, while the blue jelly portion resembles the sea.
Designed to evoke the fun and excitement of a beach day in midsummer, this drink is set to dazzle under the hot summer sun. The new Frappuccino will be available nationwide from August 7 to September 3, priced at 678 yen (US$4.53) for takeout and 690 yen for dine-in customers.
Starbucks Japan Introduces Banana Brulee Frappuccino and New Summer Treats, Featuring Mottainai Bananas
In June, Starbucks once again captivated Japan with a series of exclusive new menu items featuring bananas for a limited time. Released on May 29, the centerpiece was the Banana Brulee Frappuccino, made with “Mottainai Bananas” (bananas usually discarded due to bumps and bruises but are still good to eat). Reporter K. Masami sampled the new drink on release day to see if the B-grade fruit translated to a B-grade Frappuccino.
The drink with an almond milk base impressed Masami with its nutty flavor, which complemented the banana. Caramel sauce added a bitter note, while brulee chips provided a crispy texture, making each sip tasteful. Masami was particularly delighted by the banana pulp, which tasted as good as any supermarket banana. Knowing that this drink helps prevent fruit waste, which is estimated to save three million bananas, made it even more enjoyable.
After trying the Frappuccino, Masami opted for a Blueberry Bagel Sandwich and Mushroom Keema Curry Hot Tortilla instead of the Banana Rice Flour Roll Cake and Banana Rice Flour Muffin, released on the same day. The bagel, made with dried blueberries and vegetable-based cream cheese from soy milk, offered a subtle sweetness and refreshing aftertaste. The savory tortilla, packed with keema curry flavor, mushrooms, and cheese, was a filling and delicious end to her meal.
Masami encouraged checking the showcase for new items, as she was pleased to discover these summer treats. While she balanced her choices this time, banana lovers might want to pair the Frappuccino with banana sweets for a decadent feast. The Frappuccino is available until July 9, after which the strawberries-and-cream-flavored Frappuccino will be available for the rest of the summer.
