According to the accounts of iPhone users online, intelligent virtual assistant Siri apparently does not answer questions about most requested or top songs in the charts if they are not subscribed to Apple Music. The Verge reported that even Pandora co-creator and angel investor Tom Conrad noted the difference, and even took a screenshot to prove the irregularity and the fact that the data requested is locked into the music service.
When Conrad asked about the most popular song in the US today, Siri replied, “Sorry, Tom, I can’t look up the music charts for you. You don’t seem to be subscribed to Apple Music.”
When the colleague of Business Insider’s Nathan McAlone asked a music-related question, Siri directed him to the Apple Music app as he was still under trial period.
Apple has yet to give out a statement, but observers deduced that this is one of its many strategies to drive more growth into the service.
