CLEARWATER, Fla., Jan. 04, 2018 -- Saturday, January 13th marks the first of a series of community clean-ups the Scientology Volunteer Ministers are undertaking this year in Clearwater’s Downtown Gateway Neighborhood, an area listed as one of the “blighted” areas in Clearwater. The clean-up begins at 9:30am, starting from the Volunteer Ministers Center in Downtown Clearwater and all are welcome to participate.
“Neighborhood clean-ups are very important for the community,” said Ms. Glendy Goodsell, Executive Director of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers (VM). “They bring everyone together to bring up the standard of the environment. When you fix one broken window, clean one street – it makes a difference for the community.”
Ms. Goodsell further cites the 1982 James Wilson and George Kelling “Broken Window Theory” linking neighborhood disorder to occurrences of serious crime.
The Scientology VMs have also scheduled clean-ups for: January 20, 28 and February 4. Each of the clean-ups will start at 9:30am.
The VMs have been actively cleaning up the community for several months – especially with the several hundred volunteers contributing after Hurricane Irma hit Clearwater on September 11, 2017. During a weeklong power outage in the Greenwood Neighborhood, the VMs cleaned the debris from every street in the neighborhood and provided food, water and ice for those in need.
For more information on the Scientology Volunteer Ministers or to participate in one of the neighborhood clean-ups, please contact the Volunteer Ministers Center in Downtown Clearwater at (727) 467-6965 or email [email protected].
