The Samsung Galaxy Fold is perhaps the most ambitious smartphone to ever be unveiled recently. Billed as a groundbreaking device that will shape the smartphone industry in the future, the handset is capable of providing users with two display options.
On its Mobile Mode, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has been outfitted with a 4.5-inch screen known as its Cover Display. Unfolding the device, however, reveals a larger screen that has a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display, which can run up to three apps – a feature known as “multi-active window,” T3 reported.
Although the Samsung Galaxy Fold has been slated for release on April 26, it seems that one of the handsets has found its way on the lap of one user. A Youtube channel called phoneoftime released a video a couple of days ago where it showed off the device and its unique foldable screen.
Off the bat, there’s one glaring factor that users immediately noticed: a permanent crease on the 7.3-inch display. This will undoubtedly affect the sales performance of Samsung Galaxy Fold as the crease is quite distracting, especially when watching movies and playing games. It also doesn’t help the fact that the rear camera has been designed to protrude, making the smartphone bend slightly when rested on a flat surface. This is a curious decision from the South Korean company as it has since addressed this issue for most of its popular flagships.
And speaking of cameras, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has been outfitted with six. A front-facing camera located on the Cover Display. Two-front facing cameras when unfolded into tablet mode. And three more snappers at the back of the device.
Under its hood, the company outfitted the Samsung Galaxy Fold with a 7nm 64-bit Octa-core processor, 12GB of RAM, and 512 GB storage. There will be no MicroSD slot. As for the cost, the handset has been tagged with a jaw-dropping $1,980 price. This price, along with the permanent crease mentioned earlier, will undoubtedly play a huge factor in how the device will be received by end users. And so far, it’s not looking good.
