At least six people were injured in a new wave of Russian air strikes across Ukraine overnight, according to local officials, as authorities in Kyiv issued an air raid alert early Tuesday and urged residents to seek shelter.
In southeastern Ukraine, two people required medical assistance after Russian forces targeted the Zaporizhzhia region, Governor Ivan Fedorov reported via Telegram. The attacks added to growing concerns over intensified military activity across the country.
In northern Ukraine, emergency services confirmed that three individuals were wounded in the Sumy region late Monday following additional Russian strikes. Meanwhile, a drone attack on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, left one woman injured, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
The Ukrainian capital of Kyiv also came under threat as air raid sirens sounded in the early hours of Tuesday. Local authorities warned residents of potential aerial attacks and advised them to remain in shelters until the danger had passed.
The latest Russian attacks come amid escalating tensions in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. While Reuters was unable to independently verify the details of the reported strikes, Ukrainian officials continue to warn of increasing military pressure from Moscow.
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy cautioned that Russia could be preparing a large-scale offensive. His warning comes as Ukraine seeks stronger backing from Western allies for a potential peace agreement while continuing efforts to accelerate its bid for European Union membership.
The renewed attacks highlight the ongoing security challenges facing Ukraine as the conflict enters another critical phase. With drone strikes, missile threats, and regional assaults continuing to impact civilian areas, Ukrainian authorities remain on high alert for further escalation.
As the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues, international attention remains focused on military developments, diplomatic negotiations, and Ukraine’s pursuit of greater political and security support from its Western partners.
