Ripple and Cardano are expanding their presence in Brazil through major partnerships targeting the country’s regulated financial and energy sectors. The developments highlight growing institutional blockchain adoption in Latin America’s largest economy, although XRP and ADA saw relatively muted price reactions.

Brazilian financial market infrastructure operator CSD BR has started testing the XRP Ledger (XRPL) as a parallel record-keeping platform for investment funds. The pilot combines XRPL’s Multi-Purpose Token standard with Ripple’s institutional custody infrastructure.

Under the initiative, shares of BTG Pactual investment funds are mirrored on the XRP Ledger, while CSD BR’s existing systems continue handling official registration and settlement. Access is restricted to corporate and banking clients that meet identification requirements.

CSD BR oversees more than $4 trillion in registered assets, making the project a significant institutional test for Ripple’s blockchain technology. The company is also considering native asset issuance and could eventually expand the system to fixed-income products after completing the pilot.

Meanwhile, the Cardano Foundation has introduced two blockchain applications developed with Brazilian state-controlled energy giant Petrobras.

One application uses Cardano to track sustainable aviation fuel through a Book-and-Claim system, allowing airlines, businesses and passengers to claim verified environmental benefits regardless of where the fuel was produced. The second application tracks renewable diesel throughout its lifecycle, including production, transportation and consumption, helping companies consolidate data needed for Scope 3 emissions reporting.

Cardano Foundation Latin America lead Rafael Fraga said the energy transition will depend on trust alongside the development of new fuels. The initiative comes as Brazil’s oil and gas market is projected to reach $28.82 billion by 2031.

Despite the Petrobras partnership, ADA traded near $0.2549, gaining only about 0.9% over 24 hours and remaining more than 91% below its 2021 all-time high.

Together, Ripple’s CSD BR project and Cardano’s Petrobras partnership position Brazil as an increasingly important testing ground for real-world blockchain applications across traditional finance, tokenization, renewable energy and sustainability.
