When the teaser demo for “Resident Evil 7” was revealed, fans were absolutely ecstatic about the prospect of returning to a more horror-oriented gaming experience with the franchise. Since then, however, it was a bit difficult to quantify the level of excitement fans had for the demo. With the record-breaking 2 million downloads from the “PlayStation Plus,” context is finally available.

Since the demo was only available for “PlayStation Plus” subscribers, there were plenty of people whom will miss out on trying the playable teaser. However, despite this limitation, downloads for the game still broke records, according to the International Business Times.

In a press release, “Capcom” thanked all of the fans who downloaded the single-player demo.

"We would like to thank all our fans for the feedback and support – the nail-biting exploration and terrifying atmosphere in the demo is just a taste of what can be expected when the game releases on January 24, 2017," the press release read.

The demo teaser is not exactly what the final “Resident Evil 7” will play like, nor is it going to feature many of the same aspects. According to Capcom, the only thing that they will include in the actual game from the demo is the atmosphere and the first-person view.

Gamerant also spoke with Director Kōshi Nakanishi who told them that despite the almost supernatural feel of the game they will be keeping many of the components that made the “Resident Evil” franchise what it is.

"In the 20 year history of Resident Evil, you know that the key pillars of the game are fear and horror, exploration of the environment, puzzle-solving elements, resource management, and combat against enemies," Nakanishi told Gamerant. "Those are all in this game, but we wanted to start off with the first two – horror and exploration – and get you experiencing those two pillars up front."
