CHICAGO, March 10, 2016 -- Private practice prosthodontist Douglas G. Benting, DDS, MS, FACP, of Phoenix, Ariz. has been approved to be the new Forum Director for the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). Dr. Benting previously served the Prosthodontic Practice and Patient Care Division. He will now rejoin the ACP's Board of Directors.
"Dr. Benting's leadership is evident and his ability to identify shared goals among different groups makes him perfect for this important role in the College," said Carl F. Driscoll, DMD, FACP, current ACP President.
"The common shared goal consistent within the ACP Prosthodontic Forum is the dedication to create the ultimate outcome for our patients. I am looking forward to this opportunity to build relationships and to the discussions that arise as we work to achieve this goal," said Dr. Benting.
Dr. Benting graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, completing the prosthodontic specialty program with a Master of Science in 2002. Currently, Dr. Benting maintains a solo prosthodontic referral practice in Phoenix and is a visiting faculty member at Spear Education in Scottsdale. He is a current member of the ACP Spokespersons Network and can be seen in this video, he is a past-president of the Arizona section of the ACP, and has participated in ACP committees and promotional events to educate dental students about the prosthodontic specialty. Dr. Benting is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
"Dr. Benting's service to the American College of Prosthodontists is an example of professionalism, commitment, and respect for colleagues. This coupled with his enthusiasm for our specialty and sense of fairness led to the ACP Nominating Committee selecting him for the critical role as ACP Forum Director. We look forward to the leadership and contributions he will make to the Forum," said ACP Immediate Past President Frank J. Tuminelli, DMD, FACP.
The Forum Director of the ACP demonstrates leadership by setting knowledge-based direction, executing well, and creating and sustaining Forum success. The Forum Director proposes policies and practices, monitors the performance of Forum volunteers and committees, and submits various reports to the Board and other stakeholders. The Forum Director is accountable to the ACP President, the Board of Directors, and ACP members.
The mission of the Prosthodontic Forum is to provide a unified voice in the representation of the discipline of prosthodontics and provide a means of exchanging ideas, incentives, and information between prosthodontically oriented organizations. While each organization has its own sphere of interest, the one overlapping common denominator is the discipline of prosthodontics. Some of our organizations are large and others are small with limited membership, all are influential, collectively, our combined intellect, energy, and numbers give us the ability to be influential in decisions that impact prosthodontics.
Prosthodontists are specialized dentists with advanced training in oral health issues, who are committed to improving patient outcomes. From implants, crowns, veneers and tooth whitening, to full-mouth reconstruction, Prosthodontists specialize in digital dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and sleep apnea solutions.
The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty organization whose membership is based solely on education credentials. ACP members must be in or have completed an ADA-accredited advanced education program in Prosthodontics.
