Prince Philip once gave a heartbreaking response when asked about his struggles while married to Queen Elizabeth.

Before Her Majesty ascended the throne, Prince Philip was serving in the Royal Navy. However, the Duke of Edinburgh’s job was cut short following his wife’s coronation in 1952.

Years later, ITV presenter Alan Titchmarsh asked the Duke of Edinburgh if he was sad about renouncing his naval career in favor of the Queen’s important role. The dad of four said that it was difficult and disappointing especially since he had just been promoted to commander.

However, Prince Philip also said that his relationship with the monarch was also important to him.

“But then equally, if I stopped and thought about it, being married to the Queen, it seemed to be my first duty was to serve in the best way I could,” he said.

Daily Mail reportedly in 2011 how Prince Philip threw himself into his life as a working royal after quitting the Royal Navy, and he excelled in it. In fact, following the Duke of Edinburgh’s retirement in 2017, royal experts claimed that the royal family started falling apart.

In an article, she wrote for The Telegraph, royal expert Vicky Ward said that it was Prince Philip who led The Firm with an iron fist. Royal biographer Christopher Wilson also described Prince Charles’ dad as the disciplinarian of the royal family.

Following his retirement, there has not been a central command at Buckingham Palace. And royal fans and experts have both noticed the disintegration.

But at the end of the day, the Duke of Edinburgh’s health is of utmost importance to his family. This is also one of the reasons why they refused to involve him in the ongoing crisis related to Prince Andrew’s sexual abuse claims, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit.

“I’m sure it’s been good for his health not to be there getting involved in the day-to-day stresses and strains but I think the Queen has missed his hands-on approach to family matters,” royal correspondent Richard Palmer told Express.
