PlayStation 5 is one of the most highly-anticipated tech gadgets that have yet to receive an official announcement but which everyone already knows is coming. Fans of the PlayStation console family have been itching to hear anything about the next generation product. As such, when a fake announcement trailer was released, there were a lot of suckers who fell victim to the joke.
The fake PlayStation 5 trailer, in question, is courtesy of the YouTube channel, GameParody. Based on the name of the account alone, viewers should have already gotten the hint that this is not an official announcement. Even so, it would seem that there are a lot of viewers who didn’t catch on, including several online publications.
As of writing, the clip has already racked up nearly 15 million views and that is a lot of people to fool with what essentially boils down to being a prank. Just to make it clear, this PlayStation 5 announcement trailer is not real. It’s a parody and is exactly the kind of thing that a channel named GameParody would put out.
Even so, there were still many other YouTube content creators and internet publications that presented the PlayStation 5 announcement trailer as if it was real. It’s a fascinating trend that proves no matter how many times the internet makes a fool of users, there will always be victims. It basically proves the phrase “An idiot is born every minute” to be quite accurate.
Of course, people eventually caught on to the fact that the trailer was fake, and this is certainly not the fault of the channel. Even if the name of the account was not enough of a giveaway, there is no way that Sony would use such cheesy techno music for its PlayStation 5 announcement video. All the signs were there.
