VANCOUVER, Wash., March 31, 2016 -- Papa Murphy’s Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:FRSH) announced today it will be presenting Urban Gleaners with a $5,000 donation for the second consecutive year, to support the organization in its efforts to alleviate hunger. Urban Gleaners is a volunteer organization that picks up edible food from farmers markets, restaurants, grocery stores, event sites and delivers it to local agencies that feed the hungry.
“We are proud to continue to partner with Urban Gleaners for another year and support an initiative dedicated to alleviating hunger,” said Ken Calwell, president and chief executive officer of Papa Murphy’s International. “At Papa Murphy’s, we believe in giving generously to others and look for opportunities to help our community. Urban Gleaners’ mission of alleviating hunger through efficient food distribution will help feed many families in Portland. We’re thrilled to join with them in this commitment.”
On Thursday March 31, Papa Murphy’s will make a $5,000 donation to Urban Gleaners at a check presentation ceremony during half-time of the Portland Trail Blazers game. In addition to the donation, Papa Murphy’s employees and management team will volunteer and participate in Urban Gleaners programs.
“There are many hungry people in the Portland community and we are pleased to have partners like Papa Murphy’s that are committed to helping alleviate hunger,” said Tracy Oseran, founder and executive director of Urban Gleaners. “Hunger is not a problem of scarce resources, but inefficient distribution. Our mission is only made possible by our donors and volunteers, and with the support of Papa Murphy’s, we will be able to feed many more families in the area.”
Urban Gleaners redistributes food to Emergency Food Relief Agencies and through its Food to Schools program as well as at Summer Free Farmers Markets. Their 45 volunteers pick up food from various donors on a weekly basis and redistribute it to feed the hungry.
