‘Overwatch’ Season 2 ‘Competitive Mode’ Overhaul, New German Map

“Overwatch” “Competitive Mode” Season 1 will end tomorrow, but updates regarding Season 2 are already out, with details as to what players of the online shooting game can expect. With new skill tiers and a gameplay overhaul, there is much to look forward to. There’s also the addition of a new map, which is set in Germany to keep players engaged.

Season 1 of “Overwatch’s” “Competitive Mode” is set to end on August 17, and season 2 is already scheduled for next month, IGN reports. In preparation for the event, game director Jeff Kaplan has released a few details for players to munch on, including new skill tiers as well as the removal of the “Sudden Death” feature.

Instead of the 1-100 skill rating from season 1, season 2 will have a more appropriate 1-5000 rating. Skill tiers will also be expanded to seven, which are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Grand Master in ascending order. According to Kaplan, these changes are meant to more accurately portray the fluctuations of skill levels of the players, which naturally shift from game to game.

The best part is that now, the skill tiers won’t get downgraded even when the player performs poorly. So players who achieved Gold won’t have to worry about getting demoted to Silver. The exceptions are Master and Grandmaster, which do require quite a bit of skill to reach and maintain, which then lead to even better prizes.

In other news, a new map called "Eichenwalde" is set to be added to the game. The map is set in the German countryside and will feature beautiful sceneries, including a castle, a town, and gorgeous greenery, Business Insider reports. The new map will be free to download and the announcement was actually made at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, which is just wildly appropriate given the theme of the map.
