It seems like it is both a good and a bad week for OnePlus. The Chinese smartphone brand might soon reach more American consumers now that the OnePlus 6T is rumored to be compatible with Verizon. On the other hand, it faces quite a dilemma with its schedule of unveiling on U.S. soil, thanks to a major surprise from Apple.
PCMag revealed on Thursday that the OnePlus 6T is on its way to becoming the first-ever OnePlus smartphone sold through Verizon. The report mentioned getting confirmations from “multiple different industry sources,” but it also advised readers to take the rumor with caution.
Last August, CNET reported that OnePlus was rumored to be working on a deal with T-Mobile. If it pushed through, T-Mobile was purportedly going to be the official carrier partner for the launch of the OnePlus 6T this month.
Majority of smartphone users in the United States prefer to buy new devices via stores of telecommunications company like Verizon. This way, they have chances of enjoying discounts or trade-in deals or get a brand-new device through a monthly payment plan. Couple that with a head-turning smartphone, the OnePlus 6T could be getting the exposure it needs in the American market.
OnePlus now appears to be putting all the bets on the OnePlus 6T to significantly help the brand’s popularity status in the United States. In fact, the flagship is officially launching in New York a week earlier than the unveiling event set in China. But a new development this week poses a little bit of threat.
Media attention is obviously vital for the launch of the OnePlus 6T later this month. Business Insider suggests that OnePlus ditch their plans of announcing its newest smartphone this week since it is quite too close to the release of the Google Pixel 3 series.
However, Apple just announced its next major event where new iPads and Mac computers are likely going to launch. Interestingly, that Apple event is also scheduled on Oct. 30 in New York — the exact date and location of the OnePlus 6T debut.
