Following the success of the OnePlus 6 and how it managed to go toe-to-toe with its pricier competitors, fans of the smartphone series are now waiting for the OnePlus 6T variant. The Shenzhen-based smartphone manufacturer has always released a T version of the OnePlus series six months after its predecessor hits the market, with the new device having upgraded specs compared to the previous variant.
The OnePlus 6 started rolling out in May and following the company’s past releases, the OnePlus 6T is expected to drop sometime in October. However, it seems that the firm isn’t going to make a T version of their current model as it feels the new variant will not offer a new smartphone experience for its consumers, Pocket-Lint reported.
It can be recalled that the OnePlus 3T was created because Qualcomm released its 821 SoC, which made the new variant faster in terms of processor speed. The OnePlus 5T was given a wider 18:9 aspect ratio display, a trend that grew in popularity at the time. But given that there is no new development in the smartphone sphere, the company might deem that it can’t justify the creation of the OnePlus 6T model.
But this doesn’t stop the fans from speculating. A report from CNET stated that the company is, in fact, planning on releasing the OnePlus 6T after it shook hands with T-Mobile.
According to several people who are “familiar with the launch,” the partnership comes amidst the company’s desire to expand its consumer base, especially in the U.S. Offering a cheaper phone for the carrier means the OnePlus 6T will be exposed to a larger number of people who are still unaware that the smartphone exists.
That is quite baffling since the OnePlus 6 has been hailed as a flagship killer. This mantle has been given to the smartphone as it offers a cheaper price while its specs closely resemble those that are seen on high-end devices. And if the OnePlus 6T version comes out, it will even be more mind-blowing given how the company priced the device.
The firm still hasn’t announced anything regarding the release of OnePlus 6T or if it's currently in development. But if the firm does decide to blindside the market, the new variant is said to likely take the form of the Oppo R17.
The OnePlus 6T and the Oppo R17 are owned by the same company. What’s more, the former series has always held a lot of similarities to the latter, taking inspiration from it in its designs and specifications. However, news about the OnePlus 6T is deafeningly quiet at the moment and the company is still remaining reticent about what their plan is for the smartphone series moving forward.
