The entire “One Piece” series is filled with questions of how, and that includes Oden’s decision to eventually leave the Whitebeard Pirates and sail with Gol D. Roger’s crew. While the Whitebeard and Roger pirates are not meeting in a friendly manner in “One Piece” chapter 966, it could lead to much-needed answers.
Recent manga installments that preceded “One Piece” chapter 966 have been filled with very interesting information about Oden as well as Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger. On several online discussions, fans seemingly no longer complain that they have not read any update on the war on Wano in the present timeline.

Chapter 965’s last panels showed the Roger Pirates with their game faces on after their captain announced this might be the last time he would be meeting Whitebeard. While a clash is possibly happening, it is most likely getting resolved not by brute force in “One Piece” chapter 966. The bigger question is how this event leads to Oden deciding to leave Whitebeard for Roger’s crew.
There are several theories to how this major turning point in Oden’s life would take place. It should be noted that Roger previously showed interest in meeting Oden a couple of chapters ago. It is then possible that the would-be Pirate King will just invite Oden. The mere adventure to Laugh Tale could be enough to convince Oden to switch crews.
It is also being suggested that Oden would initially decline Roger’s offer. This is possible considering Oden would most likely value loyalty and initially declare he will not leave Whitebeard. But, as some predict, Whitebeard might even be the one to encourage Oden to join Roger by the end of “One Piece” chapter 966.
Oden illegally and impulsively left Wano to fulfill his dreams of exploring the world. This alone has made Whitebeard aware of how much Oden would love to set sail on bigger adventures, something that Roger has more concrete plans on doing. Knowing Oden’s dreams, it would not be surprising for Whitebeard to encourage Oden to join Roger in “One Piece” chapter 966.
