The study brought to the forefront issues nonprofit leaders are dealing on a daily basis, including the importance of donor retention and the challenge of creating an annual plan. With more than 1.8 million nonprofits in the U.S., it’s important now more than ever for these charitable organizations to ensure long-term success with a strong leadership team that not only understands the fundamentals of effective fundraising, but also holds the invaluable skills and know-how of running a successful business.
A few of the key issues and outcomes nonprofit leaders reported dealing with according to the 2018 Leadership Impact Survey include:
- Donor Retention Is King: Donor loyalty is a priority area of focus for nonprofits, which was rated as the most important outcome when measuring their organization’s annual success.
- Go Beyond Events: Events are still one of the most popular forms of fundraising yet increased costs are becoming more of a concern.
- Have an Annual Plan: An annual, in-depth strategic plan is fundamental to achieve fundraising success.
- Know Your Board: Board of Directors, when fully engaged, play a vital role for an organizations’ fundraising, staffing and brand awareness efforts.
- Advance Your Nonprofit With Technology: While nonprofits mostly rely on traditional methods for fundraising, there’s an opportunity to reduce costs and raise more money through the advancements in online and mobile fundraising technology.
“There are so many challenges and opportunities facing nonprofit leadership today,” said Nhu Te, Editor of NonProfit PRO. “Being able to bring this one-of-a-kind study to help nonprofit leadership navigate their way successfully is truly exciting.”
The survey was delivered to an audience of NonProfit PRO readers in December 2017 and asked how nonprofit leadership teams are managing their day-to-day business operations. After a 4-week time-period, 479 respondents completed the online survey.
“We are honored to partner with NonProfit PRO on this data-driven survey and market analysis to help better equip nonprofits with actionable insights,” said Phil Mueller, SVP of Customer Success at MobileCause. “MobileCause has seen tremendous increases in donor loyalty and annual giving by those nonprofits using online and mobile technology to advance their cause.”
MobileCause is looking toward delivering more personalized donor experiences through its services and software to help address some of the challenges unveiled in the survey that nonprofit leaders face today.
