Nintendo Could Launch SNES Mini Soon According To Reports

With the disappointment of the NES Classic’s cancellation still fresh in the hearts of fans and the burning desire to own one still lingering, reports have surfaced that Nintendo is going to release a SNES Mini this year. The media is already in a frenzy, posting the games that they would love for the company to add to the console from the unit’s extensive library. It can also provide gamers who missed out on the SNES golden age with the chance to experience it for themselves.

These reports are coming via Eurogamer, which indicated that sources close to the project have confirmed that Nintendo is going to release such a product this year. It would appear that this development is also one of the biggest reasons for the mysterious and sudden cancellation of the NES Classic, which was shaping up to be a gold mine for Nintendo.

According to the source, the mini SNES could launch around Christmas time, much like the scheduling for the NES Classic. This would put the product squarely on top of shopping lists for gamers who missed out on the latter. As of now, the company is still developing the console, which shouldn’t take much effort since the system and the library already exists.

This time around, the hope is that Nintendo will be manufacturing more of the reimagined classic game box in order to avoid the rough and tumble launch of the NES Classic. Then again, considering the amount of buzz it would generate, the Japanese brand might gain more by teasing its loyal consumers with limited numbers of the unit.

What really makes this news exciting, however, is the fact that the original SNES is the single most influential gaming innovation in the industry, Polygon reports. The NES might have been the OG, but the SNES kicked off the home video game revolution and its selection of games is legendary. Anyone who might be wondering what all the fuss is about can finally experience the wonders of the console for themselves.
