Apple's iOS 18.2 update, expected in December, will finally deliver the missing Apple Intelligence features. After iOS 18.1, many key tools are still unavailable, but the upcoming release promises to address these gaps.
Apple Intelligence Features Delayed Until iOS 18.2
According to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter, Apple is planning to release iOS 18.2 in December with two new features: Image Playground and Genmoji. Image Playground allows users to create their own photographs, while Genmoji allows them to create their own bespoke emoji.
Image Playground is described by Apple in the following way:
"Produce fun, original images in seconds with the Image Playground experience right in your apps. Create an entirely new image based on a description, suggested concepts, and even a person from your Photos library. You can easily adjust the style and make changes to match a Messages thread, your Freeform board, or a slide in Keynote."
Apple has something to say about Genmoji:
"Make a brand-new Genmoji right in the keyboard to match any conversation. Provide a description to see a preview, and adjust your description until it's perfect. You can even pick someone from your Photos library and create a Genmoji that looks like them."
Apple Intelligence Launches with iOS 18.1
The first Apple Intelligence features, according to MacRumors, will be accessible with iOS 18.1, which is expected to be released to the public in October.
Some of these features include a "Clean Up" tool in the Photos app that can swiftly remove items from a photo, a capability to record and transcribe phone calls, recommended replies in the Messages app, notification summaries, and new writing tools for producing and summarizing content.
iPhone 15 Pro Required for New Features
In order to use Apple Intelligence, you'll need an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max with iOS 18.1 or a later version. At launch, only devices with English as their default language will have access to the functionalities. Apple has promised support for additional languages in the coming year.
