Last week, first lady Melania Trump and her husband Donald Trump, were revealed to test positive for COVID-19, with the president getting admitted to Walter Reed hospital over the weekend. As Melania remains in the White House to recover and upon her husband’s return, the White House has reportedly gone under intense disinfection.
The Trumps are in the White House to recover from contracting COVID-19 last week. Since the time of their diagnosis, more staff, close aides, as well as senators and officials have also been revealed to test positive. This resulted in staff members at the White House choosing to work from home, including Melania’s stepdaughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump, who tested negative. Their son, Barron Trump, also tested negative following the news. A note from the White House website reveals that the executive residence has undergone a ‘hospital-grade’ disinfection to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
“Since March, the Residence has adopted hospital-grade disinfection policies, had White House Medical Unit lead coronavirus workshops so staff could have their concerns addressed, significantly reduced staff, and encouraged maximum teleworking. The Residence also installed additional sanitation and filtration systems throughout the Executive Mansion.”
While Melania was not mentioned as having written or given the order, reports have circulated that the first lady was the one who wrote the note. The staff who are often in close contact with both the president and first lady are subject to getting tested every day, while “support” staff will only be tested once every two days. The staff at the residential area of the White House have previously been ordered to wear face masks.
Melania has since kept a low-profile as she continues to rest in the White House, in contrast to her husband, who has been active on social media, constantly asserting that he is feeling better after a three-night confinement at Walter Reed hospital. According to Melania’s chief of staff Stephanie Grisham, the first lady is doing very well even after experiencing mild symptoms of the disease. The first lady’s staff in the East Wing are temporarily working remotely until Melania makes a full recovery.
