CLEARWATER, Fla., April 07, 2016 -- On May 1st, local citizens band together to celebrate Mother’s Day with an evening piano recital and refreshments in the historic Bank of Clearwater lobby. The lobby recently re-opened as a Public Information Center on the Church of Scientology and the works of its founder, L. Ron Hubbard. The reception is from 6 to 8pm and all are welcome to attend.
Per History.com, celebration of mothers and motherhood traces back to the ancient Greek and Romans. The official Mother’s Day holiday arose in the early 1900s as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis, social activist and community organizer during the American Civil War era. Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated the second Sunday of May in honor of motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mother’s in society.
Community groups, restaurants, art galleries and furniture stores such as Chick-fil-A, Westfield Countryside Mall and Phoenix Glass Studio organize special treats and events in celebration of Mother’s Day.
A group composed of local residents interested in community activities and collaboration is one such group, “I am a mother myself, and enjoy activities that include all members of the community,” stated Rosie Freihoff, organizer of the event. “We want all mothers and families to enjoy this day and are honored to have pianist, Kathy Roberts, performing for us.”
Hostess for the event, Amber Skjelset, said, “Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard, speaks about healthy children coming from happy mothers. So we understand the importance of mothers to the stability of our societies.”
