While it is the biggest video game streaming platform on the web, Twitch is generally a free service. This is about to change, with leaked emails revealing that there might be optional subscription services in the works. These will be paid and will likely go from $10 to $25 for the user, which will provide streamers with another source of income.

The initiative will be in beta form, according to the leaked emails posted on NeoGAF, and will be rolled out to a limited number of accounts. The emails were addressed to the platform’s partners, which are the streamers, informing them that their community members will soon be able to provide them with more support via paid subscription.

“Later this month, your community will have the choice of subscribing to your channel with two new options: $9.99 and $24.99,” the email reads. “These news subscriptions are part of our constant push to improve your experience and help make it easier to earn a steady income on Twitch.”

There are also several other benefits that come with the new system, which applies to emotes and new requirements that apply to subscribers with regards to the emotes. It would seem that the number of tiers that streamers will be going through has been increased as well, going from 14 to a whopping 50.

These will all depend on how big the streamers can make their community, which has a direct impact on how many benefits they will get, VG247 reports. Which subscription option the users choose will play a huge role in influencing this growth as well, with the $10 option being counted as two while the $25 route will be considered six.

Now, it’s worth noting that there is certainly interest among users to support their favorite streamers, with many donating via Patreon. The only question now is how much the content creators get from the subscription compared to Twitch’s cut.
