The release date for “Layers of Fear 2” has been announced, providing fans of horror games with plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks. This sequel is said to build on the themes introduced by the first game where the protagonist slowly descends into madness for their passion. It basically mirrors the struggles of artists, many of whom do horrific things for their craft.
With the first game featuring a painter who eventually succumbs to insanity for the sake of his art, “Layers of Fear 2” builds on the premise by making the protagonist an actor, PC Gamer notes. The series also moves on from the age-old horror trope of haunted houses to being stuck in the middle of the ocean. This time, players not only need to contend with their own devolving mental wellbeing but also with a deranged director.
In terms of locations, ships and bodies of water have no shortage of examples. However, a game specifically designed to work around such a setting is not exactly common, either. For those who have a natural aversion to the ocean, being set adrift, and being stuck in a confined space, “Layers of Fear 2” is a veritable nightmare.
This isn’t to say that gamers with a stouter heart won’t get anything out of this game. There are still tons of puzzles to solve and an eerie atmosphere to enjoy. Even if they are not easy to scare, available clips of “Layers of Fear 2” gameplay seem to suggest that there are plenty of opportunities to scream in fright, anyway.
As for when fans will be able to play “Layers of Fear 2,” the game is set to be released on May 28. This means that by the end of the month, players can subject themselves to simulations worthy of a heart attack.
