The recently released Android P Beta 3 update for developers has some drastic feature improvements that will change the quality of life for many Android users. TechCrunch reported that the beta 3 update will be the last major update that Google will be rolling out to developers prior to the final version of the Android P.
The final version of the update is currently targetted for release in August. Owners of certain devices may currently opt to download the beta to experience the improvements for themselves prior to the final version's release.
Some of the most highlighted feature updates brought by Android P include changes to how the operating system handles camera support. The developer notes lay out the camera updates included in the current version of the beta, which include support for using multiple cameras simultaneously on a device. This expands the range of photo-capture features that camera apps can take advantage of such as seamless zoom and bokeh effects.
There are also improvements that minimize the lag between the moment you press the capture button and when the camera actually saves the picture on your device. Updates to how the Android P handles surface sharing features will also allow the camera to continue operating while the user engages in other functions.
Other camera-related features which the new Android P beta update brings include compatibility with USB and UVC camera devices, and a feature that allows the use of the phone's screen as a flash.
The camera features that Android P unlocks used to be the only ones available to high-end phone models. With the release of the latest Android P beta update, such features are now more accessible to app developers who will implement them on midrange phones. The key updates also include finalized APIs, which will allow developers to start building apps in anticipation of the Android P's release.
