Are you someone who is all set to visit India during the summers? If answered yes, you’ll be rather happy to know that now there is a time-saving process of getting an e-visa or electronic visa after arriving in the country which has been recently introduced by the tourism ministry of India. Though this brand new and convenient scheme is yet to go through few changes and is then going to bring about a major overhaul to the international footfall of the nation, there are high hopes that this process of obtaining an e-visa is here to stay.
While tourists who are interested in an e-visa has increased manifold but the question is about the number of international tourists who actually have a clear knowledge on this facility of visa inde. Though it was introduced in the year 2014, it is seen that India hasn’t been able to spread its appeal in the international market. So, let’s discuss few things on this so that this can spread awareness among the interested tourists.
E-visa – How does it work?
With the e-visa, a potential visitor gets an opportunity to make an application for an Indian Visa from the respective country he resides in and the best thing about this is that he can do everything online without having to visit the Indian embassy in person. The fee for the visa can also be paid online. As soon as the visa is approved, the applicant will get an email where he will be authorized to travel to India with the copy of the visa. Once he arrives in India, the biometric information of the tourist will be instantly taken at immigration. With this e-visa, it has become easier and convenient for international travelers who go to explore India for medical reasons or for a sudden casual business trip.
E-visa – What is the fee like?
The accountability, possibility and reciprocity of this electronic visa have gone through a number of revisions with relation to the structure of the fee. In 2015 November, the fee slabs were simplified to 4 parts, 0, $25, $48 and $60. Currently, the application fee that is charged for an electronic visa is $60. There were several bank charges previously which have also been reduced from $2 to 2.5% of the fee of the electronic visa.
Which are the airports where you get the facility of obtaining an e-visa?
The facility of electronic visa has been made available to 16 different airports and here is the list of airports for you:
- Lucknow
- Jaipur
- Tiruchirapalli
- Amritsar
- Ahmadabad
- Gaya
- Varanasi
- Goa
- Kochi
- Thiruvananthapuram
- Bengaluru

- Mumbai
The Indian tourism ministry actually expressed its aim of encouraging more foreign delegates to travel to India for a short time and also be accompanied by family members while they went to business trips to India. The overall growth in the numbers of application of e-visa is also extremely satisfactory for the tourists and the Indian government.
