Gamers have been waiting for over 10 years for the third installment of the main “Kingdom Hearts” series, but the long wait is almost over with “Kingdom Hearts 3” set to launch on Jan. 29, 2019.
Developers Square Enix will likely shed more light on what to expect from “Kingdom Hearts 3” in the months before its release, let’s take a look at what has been revealed so far.
The series has always been known for its convoluted plot, and it appears that “Kingdom Hearts 3” isn’t going to be any different. For now, Square Enix has only shared a vague description of the storyline, and they probably won’t reveal more until the release. Game director Tetsuya Nomura did confirm that “Kingdom Hearts 3” is set right after the events of “Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.”
“What’s important to know is that after being captured by the evil Master Xehanort during the events of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Sora lost almost all of his power and set out to visit Hercules at Olympus Coliseum for help getting it back. That’s roughly where Kingdom Hearts III begins,” Corey Plante said in his report for Inverse.
“In the bigger picture, a new Keyblade War is on the horizon, and it’s one that could forge an apocalyptic weapon called the x-blade that would give the user control over Kingdom Hearts, the heart of all worlds,” he added.
“Frozen’s” Kingdom of Arendelle, “Tangled’s” Kingdom of Corona, “Pirates of the Caribbean’s” Port Royal, “Monsters, Inc.’s” Monstropolis, “Big Hero 6’s” San Fransokyo, “Hercules’” Olympus Coliseum, and “Kingdom Hearts II’s” Twilight Town have all been confirmed to appear in “Kingdom Hearts 3,” and more Worlds will likely be revealed in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy have all agreed to return to voice their characters for “Kingdom Hearts 3.”
