‘Kabukichou Sherlock’ season 2: Fans’ opined the renewal announcement will not happen because of this reason

Fans are naturally looking forward to “Kabukichou Sherlock” season 2 since the first installment has ended last month already. The anime premiered in October last year and the characters were clearly adapted from the characters created by English author Arthur Conan Doyle in his “Sherlock” detective series.

In this anime, Production I.G used urban Japan as the setting to fit in the anime genre. Still, the theme is about solving crimes and in this case, Sherlock, Watson and the other detectives solve cases happening around in Kabukicho, Tokyo, Japan. As mentioned in Tokyo Manga, this area is always busy since it is the city’s entertainment hub that is also considered a red-light district.

Season 2 renewal - will it happen?

The stories in the anime are unique and quite refreshing since it features famous English characters yet it is a Japanese animation. Thus, many were interested in it when it was launched. Although it gained many viewers, it was not enough for the producers to continue.

Based on the comments on Reddit’s discussion board for the renewal of “Kabukicho Sherlock” season 2, more fans are guessing that the expected renewal will not happen. They explained that the show deserved another season but since it did not become as popular as the other anime, it may not be renewed anymore.

“I do agree that it should have been more popular,” one fan opined. “People probably came in for a hardcore mystery/crime show but this was never going to be that.”

Season 1 recap

While “Kabukichou Sherlock” may be canceled soon, some fans may not have seen the final episode yet so here is a brief recap of what transpired in episode 24. Firstly, although they made it appear that Moriarty is still alive, he really died when he fell from the building in episode 22.

Moriarty’s character was really nice in the beginning and he is only a teenager too. But his real self was revealed in the finale and it might be shocking but he was a young psychotic serial killer after all.

His experiences since he was just a kid, all this bad trauma, turned him into a monster that no one suspected to be and this was heartbreaking for everyone. On the other hand, Watson and Sherlock felt really bad for him because they could have helped him somehow. In the end, it’s only the two of them who can work as partners.
