As “Jessica Jones” takes a long break before Season 2, a new round of photos were released in anticipation for the much-talked about “The Defenders.” The Netflix superhero special TV event will bring Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) together in one crossover series expected to debut summer of this year.
First showcased on Entertainment Weekly, the images showed the superheroes each embroiled in something mysterious. One photo showed Ritter’s character who is deep in conversation with Trish Walker (Rachel Taylor), Jessica Jones’ bestfriend. Although it seems natural for bestfriends to confide in each other, there has been speculations that there might be something more than sisterly love well after “The Defenders.”
Melissa Rosenberg talked to Esquire about this possibility, who said, "People would love that. I sometimes think there's sort of a prurient interest in that, like, can't women just be friends? I feel like for me that's what is unique about the relationship, that they are such intimate friends, and I think they don't have to become lovers — that being said, one never knows."
On the other hand, the development might be spurred from Jessica not being comfortable with fame, or with her superhero colleagues.
“She’s still dealing with the aftermath of Kilgrave, and now she’s dealing with ‘success’ — and not well. People want her to work for them, she’s getting a lot of business, and she’s not ready for any of that. She hasn’t changed, but her environment has, and there’s no handbook for how to exist in a world where you are now popular.” Ritter said of her character to Slash Film.
