‘The Defenders’ Cast, Updates: More Familiar Characters Joining Netflix’s Upcoming Marvel Crossover Series; New Set Photographs Released

‘The Defenders’ is set to feature more familiar characters from the interconnected Marvel and Netflix television series. New set photographs have been released ahead of the expected premiere in 2017.

According to IGN, Netflix’s upcoming crossover superhero web television series is set to feature a stellar line-up consisting of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdoch a.k.a. Daredevil’, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand a.k.a. Iron Fist. The four principal characters are set to form their own superhero team akin to Marvel’s widely-popular Avengers.

Joining them are fellow supporting cast mates from each of their shows, making ‘The Defenders’ one of the most saturated and star-studded series to hit the small screen. More cast members for the incoming series have been added with production in full gear on Netflix and Marvel TV, according to Collider.

Rachael Taylor of ‘Jessica Jones’ will be reprising her role as Trish Walker, Scott Glenn of ‘Daredevil’ will be returning to portray Stick, and Rosario Dawson will be reprising her role as nurse Claire Temple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sigourney Weaver is also joining the cast in a yet identified villain role.

Meanwhile, new set photographs have recently been unveiled. A set of images from the New York City filming set posted on Coming Soon featured Jessica’s first meeting with Simone Missick’s Misty Knight. It showed Ritter’s character putting her hands up as Misty Knight pointed a gun at her. It also showed Jessica in bad shape, with her face all bloodied-up as if she just came from a nasty fight.

‘The Defenders’ is scheduled to be released on Netflix sometime in 2017. The upcoming web television series is limited to eight episodes and is based on the superhero team of the same name featured in the original Marvel comic books. It is intended as part of the MCU and shares continuity with the films of the franchise.

The series is also the culmination of the interconnected television shows from Netflix and Marvel. It was developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez.
