Hyundai Mobis and Ottopia announced they have signed a deal to work together and launch autonomous driving solutions such as automotive-grade remote assistance.
According to The Korea Times, Hyundai Mobis and Ottopia will cooperate by fusing their respective expertise to create solutions for autonomous driving. Based on the agreement, the former will provide system integration technology (hardware and software) as enabled by its Remote Mobility Assistance (RMA) automated and autonomous service platform, while the latter will be furnishing core software technologies for remote control.
The services that will be made available on their platform will include remote diagnostics, teleoperation, fleet management of autonomous vehicles, and over-the-air updates. Hyundai Mobis and Ottopia will design the platform in a way that it can remotely control vehicles without passengers.
Aside from private units, industrial vehicles, shuttle buses, robotaxis, and cargo trucks may also use the platform. The companies’ project will help speed up the commercialization of autonomous mobility services in several areas, such as logistics, transportation, last-mile delivery, and construction.
"Hyundai Mobis Remote Mobility Assistance is an innovation platform for autonomous vehicles where OEMs and mobility service providers (MSPs) will be able to innovate and bring new services to their end customers unleashing the enormous potential for new business models,” Hyundai Mobis’ head of Future Mobility Transformation SW, Abdul Khaliq, stated in a press release. “Through our partnership with Ottopia, we bring Teleoperation as the first of many services to be deployed on RMA."
Ottopia’s founder and chief executive officer, Amit Rosenzweig, also said, "This partnership allows autonomous and automation developers in all industries to cut their R&D spend, commercialize faster and meet regulatory requirements for deployment.”
Rosenzweig further described its collaboration with Hyundai Mobis as a “game changer” for autonomy. He added that they are very excited to work with the south Korean car parts firm in bringing the technology to life.
