You know how people often say there’s always room for improvement? That’s because everyone has something they want to or should improve on, big or small. This applies to even the most well-rounded people as well, as not everyone is perfect, contrary to what your mother tells you. Either way, acknowledgement is the first step to becoming a better version of yourself going forward. Here are a few ways to start making changes today.
Take a Break from the Internet
This may seem like something trivial but doing a digital detox for a while is going to make bettering yourself much easier. The internet, specifically social media, can be detrimental to your mental and emotional well-being. Not only is it one of the leading causes of distraction, it’s also quite toxic at times. Sure, it may take a little while getting used to, especially if you’re someone who uses the internet a lot. But you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel when you’re not constantly seeing something negative. To help you disconnect easily, turn off any notifications from apps, like Instagram, YouTube and Twitter. It may also help if you refrain from looking at the news. Only use your phone when you absolutely need to such as checking the time or making an important call.
Broaden Your Education
Our education shapes about half of who we are as a person. While we all have that one field we excel at, there are many others that are foreign to us. For example, you may be a technician, but you’re interested in learning about how the human brain works. The best way to learn about it is to go back to college and pursue an undergraduate’s degree in psychology. You may think that going back to college isn’t a good idea because of the cost and not wanting to take on more debt. However, you don’t have to get a PhD in the field to gain knowledge. What’s more is that you can look into undergraduate student loans from a private lender who has far lower interest rates than a traditional bank or federally backed student loans. This loan can be used to easily pay for your undergraduate degree.
Be More Mindful
Being mindful is when you’re aware of how you feel, what you’re thinking and what’s going on around you. In fact, mindfulness is actually a common form of meditation that helps promote acceptance. Accepting oneself plays a vital role in your development. It allows you to be at peace with what you’re currently feeling and thinking without feeling guilty. A great way you can start being more mindful is paying closer attention to your everyday actions. It can be anything ranging from mindful eating, reading, or even watching television. The point is to increase your self-awareness. Granted, your mind may start thinking about other things, but that’s perfectly normal. Practicing mindfulness takes time to learn and master, so don’t fret about not doing it perfectly the first few times.
