LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., Oct. 06, 2016 -- The Healthcare Administrative Technology Association (HATA), announced today their newest members: Aprima® Medical Software, Greenway Health, Healthcare EDI Partners, Inc, InstaMed, and Zelis™ Payments, a division of Zelis™ Healthcare. This doubles the association’s membership since the beginning of the year.
“This past year, our strategic initiatives have resonated with Practice Management Systems (PMS) vendors and partners who want to foster education and collaboration, and advocate with one representative voice to influence the healthcare community on issues vital to overall industry efficiency in delivering the best patient care,” said Chris Bruns, President of HATA. “Through our game-changing work on removing barriers for full adoption of electronic eligibility, prior authorization adoption and developing workflow solutions for non fee-for-service payment models, we are making a difference for providers and payers.”
Eligibility – A survey was sent to the organization members’ clients asking them for the critical information regarding the major pain points that still exist with electronic eligibility. The feedback from over 630 respondents will be used to develop recommendations that will be presented to industry decision makers to encourage outcomes that allow providers to continue delivering the best patient care.
Prior Authorization – A survey was sent to HATA members to identify the barriers to adoption and provide recommendation to the industry for improving this critical segment of the revenue cycle workflow. Industry adoption of the standard electronic transaction for medical services for prior authorization is extremely low and most provider offices are currently still using a very manual process to obtain prior authorization. This is a very inefficient process, quite labor intensive and represents a large cost to the provider. The feedback from this survey will be used to develop recommendations that will be presented to industry decision makers to encourage outcomes that allow PMS vendors to offer best practice solutions within their product to their clients.
Non Fee-for-Service Payment Models – A survey was sent to payers regarding the impact of non-fee-for-service payment models on PMS vendors. The next step is to draft a paper on what HATA member PMS vendors need in order to support their clients when securing a non-fee-for-service payment agreement. HATA is currently reviewing non-fee-for-service payment models and indicate what information their system receives and in what format today from payers or what they will need to support each of the identified payment methods.
“Billing companies and claim clearinghouses are a natural fit for being involved in these initiatives as well, and HATA offers a membership category that will accommodate both,” says Tim McMullen, HATA’s Executive Director.
New Board Member and Vice President Elected – At its Board meeting earlier this month, HATA elected Jeannie Yannessa, Product Manager for NextGen Healthcare as its newest Director and Tammy Banks, Vice President, Relationship Management for Optum Cloud Operations for the position of HATA Vice President. HATA’s next Membership Meeting is Wednesday, November 2nd from 9am to 4pm in San Francisco.
