HP’s presence in the high-end PC gaming industry has been waning in recent years, but the company promised to make a huge comeback. With a newly unveiled gaming rig that looks like it was plucked from some advanced civilization in the future, the company has certainly made a big splash. Called the “OMEN X,” the desktop is a configurable, cube-shaped unit that packs a wallop and looks slick as heck.
When it comes to PC gaming, HP is not exactly the first choice of many gamers. This is why HP doesn’t introduce too many rigs that are marketed towards video game enthusiasts, as Tech Crunch points out. In order to compensate for its fringe reputation in the market, the company has had to resort to flashy entrances in order to stand out. This time, it’s hoping that the unique features of the “OMEN X” would be enough to leave an impression.
The unique shape of the unit is already a distinguishable feature from the rest of the PC market, but the “OMEN X” also has exterior design aspects that really make it stand out. However, it’s the internal features that really bring the potential of the gaming rig to bear.
According to The Verge, the baseline model of the PC sports a sweet i7 Skylake processor and 8GB of RAM. It also comes with a hefty 2TB hard drive and 256GB SSD. By default, the “OMEN X” is equipped with a liquid cooling system and is capable of supporting the 4GB AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card as well as the high-end GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs.
To top it all off, the rig has 10 USB ports, eight of them being 3.0 and two being USB-C types. It also supports 4K resolution. The catch? The “Omen X” comes at a jaw-dropping price of $1,799.
