The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) is pleased to announce the honorees of the 8th annual Heroes of Military Medicine Awards (HMM) in anticipation of the May 3, 2018 event in Washington, D.C. Each year, HJF recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions in advancing medicine for our nation’s wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and civilians.
“HJF is proud to celebrate the 2018 Heroes of Military Medicine honorees for their incredible efforts in advancing military medicine. They provide extraordinary care to our nation’s service members, veterans and civilians,” said Joe Caravalho, M.D., HJF’s CEO and President and retired Army Major General.
Three of the five awards to be presented at the HMM will be given to active duty military medical professionals from the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Offices of the Surgeon General for each service nominate the candidates for these three awards. In addition, one Hero of Military Medicine Ambassador Award and one Hero of Military Medicine Senior Leader Award will be presented.
This year’s Hero of Military Medicine Ambassador Award will be presented to the Air Force’s 99th Medical Group for its heroic response to the October 2017 Las Vegas mass casualty shooting. The Hero of Military Medicine Senior Leader Award will be presented to COL Brad Wenstrup, DPM, USAR (U.S. Representative). The Air Force Hero of Military Medicine Award will be presented to Colonel William E. Nelson, USAF, MC, CFS. The Army Hero of Military Medicine Award will be presented to Major Andrew D. Fisher, PA-C, SP, ARNG. The Navy Hero of Military Medicine Award will be presented to HM3 (FMF) Schuyler B. Nesbitt, USN.
