Google allegedly leaked the Tensor G4 SoC on Geekbench. It will power the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel Fold 2 later this year. The SoC has an Arm Mali G715 GPU and an 8-core CPU.
Google's Tensor G4 SoC Debuts on Geekbench: A Closer Look at the Rumored Specs
Previous rumors indicated that Google would approach the Tensor G4 cautiously. It would be a Tensor G3 version with more recent CPU cores but the same GPU. The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel Fold 2, which are expected to go on sale later this year, will be powered by the SoC. A bogus Geekbench listing now reveals its specifications, as per Notebook Check.
Joining the Tensor G4 on Geekbench is a gadget known as the "Google Tokay" prototype. Which of the three gadgets mentioned above is powering it isn't readily apparent. It might even be a hoax, considering how readily listings on Geekbench can be changed.
But if you look closely at the Geekbench listing, you can see that it's the real deal—it has an Arm Mali G715 GPU, one 3.1 GHz Cortex X4/X5 core, three 2.6 GHz Cortex A7xx cores, four 1.95 GHz Cortex A5xx cores, and eight gigabytes of RAM.
According to these specifications, the Tensor G4 appears to have 8-core chips, which initially bewilders. 9 CPU cores were squeezed into its predecessor, the Tensor G3, and updated components rarely have fewer cores than their predecessors.
It also performs worse than the Tensor G3 (1,268/3,510), with single and multi-core Geekbench 5 scores of 1,082/3,121 and 1,024/2,788, respectively. This is explained by the Tensor G4 in question being a pre-release sample.
Google's Tensor G4's Production on Samsung 4LPP+ Node: A Prelude to Performance Evolution
It was previously disclosed that Samsung's 4LPP+ node—which also produces the Exynos 2400—would be utilized in the production of the Tensor G4. Thus far, the Exynos SoC has successfully competed with MediaTek and Qualcomm's top products; it would be intriguing to observe if the Tensor G4 can achieve a similar feat.
Those hoping for a more substantial performance boost must wait until the Tensor G5, which Google is rumored to be building from the ground up on an unidentified TSMC node.
