Google Soon To Make VR Classrooms The Norm

Technology has been shaping how the next generations of students are taught for years. From the quill and ink bottle to electronic texts via keyboard input, classrooms have always adapted where they can in order to improve learning. With virtual reality technology on the rise, it was inevitable that a company like Google would want to implement the tool for education, and one of their goals is to make VR learning the norm.

At the moment, the fusion of VR technology and education in classrooms is in its initial stages and is nowhere near as ready as it needs to be for widespread implementation. As TechCrunch notes, the platform is far from primetime-ready, but it does have plenty of potential because of the interest that major brands are showing.

With Google, the tech giant will be integrating their “Google Expeditions” and “Google Classrooms” with the “TES” program, which millions of teachers are using to share resources with. The idea is to provide teachers with the digital tools that they need in order to provide their students with things like a VR expedition interface, which provides them with up-close images of real-world environments.

Apparently, Google is really excited about the program, if the statement by Emma Fish is anything to go by. Fish is part of the Education Partnerships team for Google for Education.

“The new portal offers TES users a seamless experience with Google’s suite of tools,” she said. “Teachers can now find lesson plans compatible with Google Apps for Education, share those lesson plans using Classroom, access free training on Google tools, and even take their classes on immersive virtual journeys to bring their lessons to life with Google Expeditions and the TES portal.”

Tech Times went over the details of the plan, particularly paying attention to the features that the VR class will involve. From seamless screen-sharing to added 3D field-trip options, the interface certainly has its moments.
