Alphabet’s Google and Blackstone are reportedly joining forces to launch a new artificial intelligence cloud company powered by Google’s proprietary AI chips, according to a Wall Street Journal report published Monday. The ambitious venture highlights the growing race among tech and investment giants to secure dominance in the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure market.
Blackstone is expected to invest approximately $5 billion and become the majority owner of the new AI cloud business. The company aims to bring 500 megawatts of AI computing capacity online by 2027, with plans to significantly expand operations in the coming years as global demand for AI processing power continues to surge.
The new platform is expected to compete directly with AI infrastructure providers such as CoreWeave, while also strengthening Google’s broader push into the AI hardware sector. The project could increase competitive pressure on Nvidia, whose GPUs currently dominate the artificial intelligence chip market.
As AI adoption accelerates across industries, companies are searching for alternatives to Nvidia’s expensive and highly demanded processors. Google is positioning its custom-built Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) as a viable option for powering next-generation AI models and cloud services.
Google recently introduced an upgraded AI processor designed specifically for training and running advanced AI applications. Under the partnership, Google will provide the new venture with TPU chips, software solutions, and cloud-based AI services to support large-scale computing operations.
The collaboration between Google and Blackstone reflects the growing importance of AI infrastructure investments as businesses race to secure enough computing power for generative AI, machine learning, and enterprise AI applications. Analysts believe the partnership could reshape the competitive landscape in the AI cloud computing industry over the next several years.
With billions flowing into AI infrastructure projects worldwide, the Google-Blackstone partnership signals that competition in the AI chip and cloud market is only beginning to intensify.
