U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire following four days of intense cross-border military strikes. The announcement came after overnight talks mediated by the United States, with Trump congratulating both nations for choosing diplomacy over conflict.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that both governments will begin peace talks at a neutral location, praising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their leadership and restraint. Bangladesh’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus also commended both leaders, pledging support for ongoing diplomatic engagement.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called the ceasefire a critical step toward de-escalation and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to peace and counter-terrorism in South Asia. British Foreign Minister David Lammy urged both countries to maintain the truce, emphasizing the importance of sustained dialogue.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the development, expressing hope that peace and security would be restored in the region. The Kingdom emphasized dialogue and praised both nations for choosing self-restraint.
United Nations Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric labeled the ceasefire a positive move toward easing tensions and expressed optimism for long-term peace between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini, spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslim community, also expressed hope that India and Pakistan would now resolve their historical disputes through peaceful negotiations.
The ceasefire announcement has sparked optimism across global diplomatic circles, as leaders worldwide urge continued efforts to prevent further conflict and promote lasting peace between India and Pakistan.
