Last Sept. 13 marked the fifth anniversary of “GTA V’s” official release date. This also means that half a decade has passed with no official update on the development of “GTA 6.”
Rockstar Games is known for some of the biggest action-adventure video games on the market. Aside from the “GTA” series, the studio is also popular for the “Red Dead Redemption” franchise.
With “RDR2” getting released this year, many fans believe that Rockstar Games is most likely able to focus on the making of “GTA 6.” For this reason, some are hopeful that they could be hearing or seeing more of the highly anticipated “GTA 6” once the Wild West-themed sequel comes out next month.
Aside from the release date, earlier reports speculated that the gameplay and technical improvements applied in “RDR2” is a window to “GTA 6” features. Rockstar Games was obviously not kidding when they promised to make this year’s Wild West video game the most immersive open world title they have ever released.
Interactions with non-playable characters — even with the horses — are much more realistic as seen in “RDR2” gameplay trailers. GamesRadar previously suggested that it is very likely for Rockstar Games to improve this further, if not to level it when it comes to the making of “GTA 6’s” open world. As Rockstar North's co-studio head Rob Nelson told the Telegraph earlier this year (via GamesRadar), “We don’t want to be better than anyone else. We want to be better than ourselves.”
With all the talk and rumblings about “GTA 6" but with zero official information, how sure can the fans be that the anticipated title is ever going to be released? For now, they can rely on the words of Rockstar North’s ex-President Leslie Benzies.
In 2013, Benzies told said, “We’ve got about 45 years worth of ideas … We don’t know what ‘GTA 6’ will be, but we’ve got some ideas.
