When it comes to the slow adoption of electric cars, one of the biggest concerns has to do with range. Without charging stations in every corner, drivers just are not comfortable with risking getting stranded somewhere once the car runs out of juice. However, a pair of Tesla enthusiasts just drove from California to New York in 52 hours using a Model S, disproving these fears.
The pair in question are friends Jordan Hart and Bradly D'Souza, The Verge reports. Riding a 2015 Tesla Model S, the two rode from Redondo Beach, California at 11:30 PM PT and arrived at E. 31st Street, NYC after 51 hours and 47 minutes.
As expected, the ride took quite a bit of planning and required the pair to take routes that were not advised by the guidance system. The cannonball run also meant that the two had to make certain sacrifices, including stopping for food only once, as Hart told the publication in an email.
“We were also VERY focused on our run and only stopped to eat once,” the email reads. “Even then we told the staff what we were doing and were in and out of the restaurant in about 15 minutes. The rest of the time was healthy low glycemic snacking and a strict nap schedule for whoever wasn't driving.”
This is not the first time that a Tesla car was used to drive across the country in record time as it was actually done before, with a record of 55 hours. However, only Tesla vehicles have reigned at the top in this particular arena, which makes for a very good case in proving that Elon Musk’s company is the electric car King.
Tesla’s rise as the auto industry’s reckoning doesn’t stop there either, Futurism reports. The company’s cars are breaking records in practically every relevant field, provided that they are used by competent drivers, of course.
