In its latest attempt to attract video creators who are currently monopolized by YouTube, Facebook is launching a new app called Facebook Creator. It’s basically Facebook Mentions with some updated features that make it easier to stream videos and updating their Stories. With Facebook having over 2 billion users, the social network might just have a good shot at drawing a lot of creators with this app.
One of the biggest advantages of the Creator app is that it allows content creators who use Facebook Live to create custom intros and outros. This is useful because users who try to view live streams on the service usually experience a pause before the feed loads, The Verge reports. An intro would be handy at filling in the gaps.
Content creators can also use the app to edit photos and upload them onto Stories as well as other Facebook platforms. Right now, it isn’t clear if Instagram is part of that network, but it likely will be.
Then there’s the matter of having one inbox for all the different messaging platforms on Facebook with the app. Basically, content creators don’t have to bring up different apps just to read messages or respond to comments and the like.
Along with the Creator app, Facebook is also launching a website called Facebook for Creators. It’s where content creators can go to check out tips to make the most out of their time as providers of entertaining videos on Facebook.
Fidji Simo, the VP of video product at Facebook told TechCrunch that the goal for these services is to bring “meaningful content” to users. This coincides with the declaration that Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg made recently, when he said that “time well spent” will be the next goal of the platform.
“It’s a big priority for us to bring people closer together around meaningful content and the people who are meaningful to them,” Simo said. “Creators are right at the intersection of everything we think is pretty unique about Facebook.”
