MARKHAM, Ontario, March 12, 2018 -- Extendicare Inc. (“Extendicare” or the “Company”) (TSX:EXE) today announced the appointment of Michael Guerriere to its Board of Directors, effective immediately, for a term to expire at the next annual meeting of shareholders, whereupon he will stand for election. This appointment increases Extendicare’s board to ten directors.
Dr. Guerriere is Chief Medical Officer, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of TELUS Health, where he oversees the strategy for the company’s eHealth business which serves clinical professionals, hospitals, government agencies, health authorities, pharmacies and consumers across Canada. Prior to joining TELUS Health in 2011, Dr. Guerriere was a founding partner of Courtyard Group, an international healthcare consultancy that TELUS Health acquired. Before starting Courtyard in 2002, he served ten years as an executive in university teaching hospitals, including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the University Health Network.
Dr. Guerriere has adjunct appointments in the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto and the School of Health Information Science at the University of Victoria. He has served on numerous boards including Ryerson University (where he served as Chair), MediSolution Ltd. (member of audit committee), Canada Health Infoway (chair of finance committee), the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), and the Institute of Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES).
Dr. Guerriere received a degree in Medicine and specialty training in Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto. He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University and an honorary doctorate from Ryerson University.
