British power plant operator Drax has unveiled its plan to launch an independent business to become the world's leading provider of large-scale and high-integrity carbon removal solutions. With a focus on sustainable energy, the new entity will be operationally separate from the Drax Group and headquartered in Houston, United States.
Strong Leadership and Expertise
The newly formed business, according to Reuters, will be led by Laurie Fitzmaurice, a seasoned energy infrastructure expert with almost three decades of experience in business development.
Fitzmaurice brings valuable insights and vision, having recently worked for Amazon Web Services. Her appointment underscores the importance of strategic leadership in driving this ambitious initiative.
Drax Group CEO Will Gardiner expressed his excitement about this significant milestone. He emphasized the collaborative effort of the exceptional individuals within the company.
This latest endeavor represents another crucial step towards achieving Drax's goal of enabling a zero-carbon, lower-cost energy future.

Recently, Drax announced that the government has approved its planning application to convert two of its biomass units at the Drax plant. This conversion will incorporate bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) technology. The approval signifies a substantial leap forward in Drax's efforts to address carbon emissions.
