Former President Donald Trump is facing several criminal investigations, a number of which are related to the November elections and his attempts to overturn results in Georgia. In a recent development, officials from the state’s secretary of state office discover a recording of a phone conversation between Trump and a Georgia investigator.
Officials from the office of Georgia’s Secretary of State have obtained a recording of a phone call between Trump and an investigator in the trash folder of their device. This development comes as officials have previously stated that they did not think the audio of the conversation existed. This newfound recording now backs up Trump’s efforts to influence Georgia officials to overturn the state’s election results in his favor while pushing his baseless fraud claims. Georgia went to Joe Biden during the elections.
People familiar with the matter revealed to CNN that a public records request was made to the Secretary of State’s office, thus discovering the audio recording between the now-former president and Georgia election investigator Frances Watson. The call took place shortly before Christmas on December 23. It was previously reported that the conversation between Trump and Watson revealed the former president asking Watson to find fraud in the state’s elections, telling her that she would be praised for overturning the results.
On January 2, another conversation was leaked, this time between Trump and the Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. The former president asked Raffensperger at the time to “find” enough votes for him to win the state instead of Biden. This is currently being investigated by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Meanwhile, despite having three COVID-19 vaccines already being distributed to the public, a PBS poll showed that a significant portion of Americans - Republicans and Trump supporters - are refusing to get vaccinated. This is in stark contrast to reports having surfaced of the former president receiving the vaccine shortly before leaving the White House. Trump did not publicize his vaccination compared to his predecessors and Biden. However, Biden recently said that he would not wait for Trump to encourage his supporters to get vaccinated.
“I discussed it with my team, and they say the thing that has more impact than anything Trump would say to the MAGA folks is what the local doctor, what the local preacher, what the local people in the community say,” said Biden Monday.
