‘Dark Souls 3’ DLC Revealed; Trailer Features Dark And Cold Land, New Bosses

Bandai Namco has just released the trailer for the upcoming “Dark Souls 3” DLC and it is set in a frigid landscape. Titled “Ashes of Ariandel,” it seems to feature a new area where players will need to battle gigantic monsters once again in order to uncover some plot points that contribute to the lore of the game. For those who don’t want to be spoiled, the trailer and this piece contain information about certain bosses and content of the DLC.

The DLC will be out on October 25 across all three platforms, and it seems to indicate a return to the optional area called “The Painted World of Ariamis,” IGN speculates. For those who don’t know, this area is accessible in the first Dark Souls game.

Supposedly, many of the content in the trailer harken to the elements found in the optional area, including what appears to be “Velka,” the goddess of sin and the “Painting of Ariamis.” None of these theories have been confirmed, but the hints are compelling.

In any case, others are more excited about the upcoming boss battles that the trailer showcased, where the promise of even more thrilling fights and deaths are prominent. One of the bosses is seen fighting the player by trying to squash them with a "Lord Vessel" and even pouring molten liquid over their head.

As with other reveals in the past, Bandai Namco is not one to let the cat out of the bag early, Gamespot notes. The actual plot of the DLC is kept hidden even as the trailer gave away quite a few details. What the company does promise, however, is more of the same “Dark Souls” goodness that players have come to expect.

"Players will find themselves steeped in a brand new environment filled with terrifying new enemies, challenges, and exciting lore to expand the overarching Dark Souls 3 storyline," the company said.
