LOS ANGELES, June 30, 2016 --
WHAT: Claire's Place Foundation, a non-profit organization providing support to children and families affected by cystic fibrosis, is proud to announce their second annual "Glow Ride" fundraiser. The short 3.4 mile ride will make a big scene on the Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach Piers and make an even bigger impact on families with cystic fibrosis struggling to make ends meet while dealing with extended hospital stays.
19-year-old Claire's Place Foundation Founder Claire Wineland created the foundation to provide emotional and financial support to families with children that have cystic fibrosis (CF). Claire, who lives with CF, began her work following a life-threatening experience in the hospital at age 13, when an infection following a minor surgery spread throughout her body, sending her into complete lung failure. She was placed in the intensive care unit in a medically induced coma for several weeks and given a 1% chance of surviving. She defied all the odds and after regaining her strength months later, decided to help other families living with CF. She credits her recovery to the love and support she received and wanted to offer the same to others.
Claire and her supporters, including Jane the Virgin star Justin Baldoni and Hermosa Beach Mayor Hany Fangary, will be passing out glow sticks, glasses, bracelets, and the works to all the participants at the event so we can really brighten the lives of those that struggle with this disease each and every day.
DETAILS: The event is sponsored by NorthStar Moving Company and Hermosa Cyclery, who will donate back 100% of all proceeds from participant bike rentals to Claire's Place.
"So many things about Claire's Place Foundation are special," said Steve Collins of Hermosa Cyclery. "Among my favorite are the people who run it, how close you are to the people you help, and that they help kids who should be our highest priority."
Tickets are $40 and include all the glow in the dark goodies needed to decorate bikes, skateboards, etc., as well as a custom glow in the dark event t-shirt.
Not in the area? You can still support the event by making a donation, start your own fundraising team and order a custom "Glow Ride for CF" glow in the dark event t-shirt! All details can be found here.
All ages are welcome!
WHERE: Start: Hermosa Beach Pier, Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach, CA
WHEN: Saturday, July 16, 2016, 6:00 p.m. (Ride starts at 7:30 p.m.)
