A lot of those within the video game community, both the players and publications have been saying that MMORPG is dead. This is due to the rise of other online multiplayer genres such as those in Battle Royale and MOBA. However, while the industry has certainly gotten smaller, it isn’t dead yet. This is what “Chronicles of Elyria” will be trying to revitalize with its hugely ambitious goals.
For those who don’t know what it is, “Chronicles of Elyria” is an MMORPG that can trace its development origins all the way back to 2000, OtakuKart reports. Work on the game did not officially hit its stride until 2016 and since then, it has only gotten bolder in what it wants to do. Based simply on the description of the game, for example, this title will be fully destructible and comes with permanent effects.
“Rather than being grindy and repetitive, Chronicles of Elyria allows players to make meaningful choices about the role they play in the world and, in turn, their choices have meaningful consequences on those around them. Not just a theme park or sandbox MMO, we define Chronicles of Elyria as an event-driven story MMO, with a gripping narrative that is experienced across multiple in-game life-times as your characters are born, age, and die,” the game description reads.
“With a functioning eco-system, a closed economy with finite resources, and a political system that lets players engage in the Dance of Dynasties, we believe Chronicles of Elyria is the game MMO players have long been waiting for – a game in which their choices and presence matters in the world.”
As to what is going on with “Chronicles of Elyria” of late, there will be a Domain & Settlement Selection event that will start on April 29. This is basically where the developers offer “Civilization” style land cultivation to players ahead of the title’s release.
