Carmelo Anthony is now rumored to be leaving the Houston Rockets due to the team’s performance in this year’s regular season. So far, the Rockets have 6 wins and 7 losses with a .462 Pct.
Although it’s obvious that Carmelo Anthony is not fully to blame for this decline, the forward is also one of the problems of the Rockets. Various analysts have already predicted that the ex-Thunder star should not be included in Rockets roster even before the organization finalized their deal.
There are several reasons for this but the most glaring one is the lack of defense by Carmelo Anthony. It’s no secret that ‘Melo doesn’t like to make defensive plays and his game mainly revolves around putting up his shots.
Now, rumors are saying that the Los Angeles Lakers might be interested in adding Carmelo Anthony to their roster. Speculations started appearing online that the 34-year-old forward could very well earn a spot in the Lakers roster due to him being close friends with Lebron James, SilverScreenAndRoll reported.
However, seeing that Lebron James didn’t exactly push to acquire Carmelo Anthony during his stint with the Cavs, these rumors will likely remain just that, rumors. Another team that is supposedly interested in acquiring ‘Melo is the Philadelphia Sixers.
Although Sixers fans would groan at this idea, the team does need to fill the hole left by Dario Saric and Robert Covington. However, given Carmelo Anthony’s recent performance, the forward should come off the bench rather than a starting five. And this is another potential problem.
Carmelo Anthony has already made it clear that he doesn’t want to start off the bench and has even scoffed at the very idea when a reporter suggested it to him a few years ago. If the forward does make his way to the Sixers’ roster, coach Brett Brown will find it difficult to convince ‘Melo to lead the second unit if the player’s previous sentiment is anything to go by.
There’s also the fact the coach Brown will have his hands full at integrating Jimmy Butler to the playstyle of the team. Overall, it seems Carmelo Anthony will have difficulty finding a team that would really give him minutes as the forward is no longer the player he was 10 years ago.
