California and Washington officials are investigating how Amazon is handling third-party sellers to determine whether it violating any law.
The inquiries do not appear to be in advanced stages.
California had asked Amazon whether it uses the data from third-party sellers to get information about which products to sell.
The WallStreet Journal reported that Amazon used confidential and information about sellers on its marketplace, its products, and transactions to develop its competing products.
Amazon claimed that such practices are against their policies.
Big technology companies are under heightened scrutiny by federal authorities for their practices, with the US Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission pursuing antitrust probes into Amazon, Google, Facebook, Google, Apple, and Amazon.
Last month, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was to testify about the company's practices by the House Judiciary Committee.
