Burger King Launches New Whopper in South Korea After Chaotic Marketing Campaign

Burger King unveils newest Whopper burger in Korea.

Burger King unveiled its newest Whopper burger in South Korea on Monday, April 15. The sandwich is the upgraded version of the chain’s signature menu.

According to The Korea Herald, the launch of Burger King’s revamped Whopper in the country comes a week after it created a chaotic buzz with the announcement of the Whopper’s discontinuation. Rather than excitement, the marketing campaign only angered fans and customers since the flagship burger is being scrapped.

Clearing the Misunderstandings

It turned out that Burger King started the campaign for the release of its new Whopper this week. Many customers were irritated because the ads suggested that the company would stop serving the flagship burger when, in truth, the Whopper was only being upgraded to a better version.

Burger King apologized for the confusion caused by the ad and clarified that the burger would not be removed from the menu. The burger joint explained that the old version is gone, but it will be replaced by a new Whopper, which is being released as part of BK’s 40th anniversary in Korea.

New Whopper and Promotions

Moreover, in celebration of Burger King’s four decades of operations in Korea, the brand launched the “Fire Taste Project” to spotlight the fiery taste of the Whoppers by enhancing its ingredients and cooking methods. The project will start with the introduction of the “New Whopper.”

This new menu features a beef patty seasoned with a golden ratio of salt and pepper. The patty is thicker, so it is also juicier and softer. BK applied a glazed coating to complete the smoky taste of the Whopper.

Finally, Korea’s Money Today reported that Burger King also launched a special promotion until April 28. It will offer the New Whopper at a discounted price of KRW4,000 - the regular price is KRW7,100. Customers can also enjoy significant discounts for Bulgogi Whoppers and Cheese Whoppers.
